How my journey began

Hello and welcome! I'm glad you're here.

I'm a linguist by background and currently studying to become an Ayurvedic practitioner. But my interest in Ayurveda actually goes back quite a long way.

About 20 years ago, while I was living in Germany, I was already looking into training as a Heilpraktiker (a practitioner of alternative medicine in Germany), and Ayurveda was something I felt particularly drawn to.

But life took a different direction. I continued my studies in linguistics, went on to work as a freelance translator and, somewhere along the way, had children and became busy raising a family. My interest in Ayurveda never completely disappeared, but it stayed in the background while other things took priority.

Then, at the beginning of this year, I decided to take a yoga foundation course. I'd been interested in yoga, but this course went a little deeper than the physical practice we're often familiar with from regular yoga classes. We explored some of the philosophy and ideas behind yoga, and as we did, Ayurveda kept coming up. And there it was again! Something I'd been interested in all those years ago suddenly felt just as fascinating as it had back then. I found myself wanting to learn more, so this time I decided to actually do something about it. After about 20 years, I've finally decided to give this long-standing interest the time and attention it deserves and study Ayurveda properly.

What I find particularly interesting about Ayurveda is the way it looks at health and life as a whole. It's not just about what happens when we become ill, but about how we live, what we eat, how we sleep, our daily habits and how we relate to the world around us.

And that's really why I started this blog. As I work my way through my studies, I keep coming across things that I find interesting, surprising or simply worth sharing. I wanted somewhere to collect these thoughts and discoveries and share a little of what I'm learning along the way.

I'm still very much a student, and there's so much I have yet to learn. But that's part of what makes it interesting.

So whether you're completely new to Ayurveda or already know a little about it, I hope you'll enjoy exploring some of these ideas with me.

Alongside my Ayurveda studies, I continue to work as a translator and enjoy being creative with fabrics. Yoga is also an important part of my life, and I love sailing. There's something about being out at sea, with the wind and water around me, that gives me a wonderful sense of peace and balance.
